This Success Story begins with a couple of graphic design students at the Malaysian Institute of Art discovering a need, while along with fellow students, searching for suppliers of Apple computers, software, accessories, service & support.
These two students, now a husband and wife team (Jason & Shirley), began filling this need in 1997 by selling and servicing Apple computer products to students. Today, their company, Ascend Zone Communication Sdn Bhd, services numerous large educational and corporate clients as well as students, just like they were years earlier.
Ascend Zone is an Apple Authorised Reseller actively engaged in building both their student and corporate customer base. Their competitive advantage is that they are able to fully support their customers.
The Key Challenge
In 2005 Jason & Shirley made the bold move to establish a retail shop at the new & up-market shopping complex “The Curve” in Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya. Then in 2007, Ascend Zone opened a retail outlet in Klang.
Then again in 2008 they decided to expand their showroom at The Curve to 1,800 sq ft of gorgeously designed showroom space.
This growth placed high demands on managing the business, so Shirley began searching for accounting software on the Internet that would be suitable for their business.
Coming from a non-accounting background, Shirley needed accounting software that was easy to use while rich in business management features.
After downloading several Windows™ based accounting software trial editions, Shirley “became totally frustrated”. Even trying the most popular accounting software available, she “totally did not understand how to use it”.
Then she discovered MYOB and downloaded the free 30-day test drive. To her delight, she found MYOB “quite simple to set-up and use with a straight forward interface making it easy to move through the software”, all on her beloved Mac!
There was no turning back. Ascend Zone engaged Reena Chew, an MYOB Professional Partner at SeaSoft Sdn Bhd, to help set-up the chart of accounts, inventory and customise the forms (invoices, purchase orders, etc). The To-Do-List is Shirley’s favourite feature that she “just cannot live without”.
Collections is an important part of any business, and with this To-Do-List, the task is simplified. Also with being an Apple Authorized Reseller comes the demand of weekly sales reports. At the click of a button the weekly sales report is prepared.
